The Beginning Of Mondo Marine LLC

Owner Rian Mondriaan, (pronounced Reon – like neon), grew up in South Africa and started work on his first project boat at the age of six as his Dad’s assistant. Since that day he has never stopped tinkering with anything motorized on or off the water. His dad also put him on his first sail boat, a friend’s Vickers 41, for a club race during a winter storm. That was all he needed to realize that the idea of working on boats after he finished school had some merit. Rian then worked his way around the world doing what any young surfing sailor would like to do; follow summer for 5 years.
80,000 blue water miles later, including 6 transatlantic deliveries of various models of South African built catamarans, Rian began to look for a way to apply his practical experience and sailing knowledge working for builders. Quality control, training deliveries with owners, warranty repairs and boat shows all led to Rian spending more and more time in the States and eventually meeting his future wife at a boat show there.
At the Miami Boat Show in 2007, Rian helped a boat owner get a cranky display boat running and that led to his next work opportunity. The happy boat owner contacted builders Dan and Sarah Even and told them he had found someone they needed to have working for them. Several interviews later, Rian joined Manta Catamarans in Sarasota as the their General Manager. It was at this first post where he eliminated hundreds of wasted man hours in all aspects of the catamaran build by streamlining production and modernizing portions of the design.
